An Amazing Trick to Find Success and Satisfaction All Year Long

I learned an amazing trick this year that helped me find success and satisfaction with my resolutions all year long! Yep, this one thing guided my heart and mind every month of 2017. I’m eager to share it with you today!

A common way to set goals for the new year is by setting resolutions.

I know, I said that foul “R” word: resolutions…

Unfortunately, most people don’t find success when they set a resolution. This is exactly why I don’t normally set resolutions. I’ve always felt so much pressure and expectation to just fail at keeping my resolution and commitment. Yes, I would create SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time bound) goals for myself, but nothing I’d ever call a resolution.

Last December I decided to take a new approach to annual resolutions and goal setting. This method really worked, my friends, so I’m excited to share it with you!

Because of the format of my resolution, I was able to keep the two personal commitments I’d made all year long. Yes, I had some ups and downs along the way, but I never gave up because of the way I created my resolution. It helped me stay focused, motivated and realistic. As a result I was able to make great strides in my business goals, including:

  • publishing 10 blog posts on personal leadership and life management topics
  • writing an introduction and three chapters for my book on Life-Clarity
  • speaking at two conferences (one in California and one in Colorado) on coaching topics
  • recording 15 videos for my Moment of Clarity video series

What is it you want to accomplish in this next year?

Developing a Powerful Habit of Self-Coaching

Self-coaching is a powerful habit of self-exploration and intentional living that anyone can develop! I love to teach my clients basic self-coaching skills and have done so for years! Join us in this easy-to-form habit and start creating more Life-Clarity in just 20-45 minutes a week!

With any new habit there is a little bit of basic set up or preparation to get you ready for success. The prep work to set up a new self-couching routine isn’t hard but it is important. Let’s start with that then dive into the process I teach my clients that allows them to continue their powerful self-work after our formal sessions end. This is a quick and easy way to invest in your growth right away while learning a little about coaching.

Ultimate New Year’s Resolutions

I know many people feel motivated to do improve their life when a new year roles around. Many people make resolutions but unfortunately not that many people really succeed at keeping their resolutions.

I want people to live the best version of their life possible, but that simply isn't possible when we use underdeveloped and mediocre approaches to goal setting and creating true lasting change. This year I wanted to create a self-coaching tool that would help people create better resolutions, ones that are motivating and feasible! This is just one more way you can live more intentionally in 2017.

Creating Gratitude on Thanksgiving Day

make-a-paper-chain-slideshowmainimageThis is the month many people focus on creating gratitude in their life due to the Thanksgiving Holiday. My husband and I are no exception. Two years ago we started a Thanksgiving tradition: Our Gratitude Chain. Just as you might have done in elementary school, we create a paper chain each Thanksgiving Day.

We cut strips of paper and divide the strips so we each have about half of them. We then individually write one thing we are thankful for on each strip. Writing them individually allows us to reflect on what mattered most to us in the past year before we share our answers with each other. We take turns reading our strips out loud, providing an explanation as needed, then tape the strips into interconnected loops to make a chain. That Book I’ve Been Writing…

I'm not sure I'll ever have a room like this, but I'd love it!
I’m not sure I’ll ever have a room like this, but I’d love it!

I’ve been working on a book…for a while now. I’ve always liked to write. Writing is cathartic and relaxing for me. It’s a fun creative process that challenges my mind. I enjoy the struggle over a blank page and the review process that molds my thoughts from jumbled mess to surprising prose.

I’ve filled journal after journal with my personal life since 3rd grade. That’s right – 3rd grade, so I have boxes and boxes of journals. I love collecting books too so some day I’ll have enough to make my own rainbow library…if my husband will ever let me get away with it!

4 Ways to Live More Intentionally

It was pretty easy for my husband and I to decide a few months ago that we wanted to move out of our apartment and buy our first home. Not every decision in life will be that easy, and we know it! For us the financial, time and lifestyle benefits were obvious. We knew this choice would take our life in the direction we wanted to head. It was a very intentional choice for us.

When we made the decision we weren’t exactly sure how the home buying process would go. We also didn’t know how long it would take us. What we did know was that the choice to move felt very right. We were comfortable with our decision and excited for the possible future that laid before us.
